This is Buddha Gautama, born as Siddhartha Gautama during the 6th or 5th century B.C. in today’s Nepal, the initiator of Buddhism He is symbolizing the teaching of Buddha’s education in the standing position. Buddha displays the gesture Dharmacakra Mudra or setting the wheel of law in motion. The gesture of the touching thumbs and index fingers represents the connection between wisdom and method. On the right hand the middle finger stands for the listeners, the ring finger for he who realizes and the small finger for the Mahayana (one of the big vehicles in Buddhism). On the left hand the 3 free fingers symbolize Buddha, Dharma and those who follow him.
