Description :
Ganesha is one of Hinduism’s 5 prime deities. He is the son of Shiva and Parvati, worshipped as the God of Education, Wisdom and Wealth. Also it is said that he destroys vanity, selfishness and pride.
His head represents Atman, the ultimate supreme reality of human existence and at the same time his elephant head represents wisdom, with his large ears he can hear human’s petitions. The items in his 4 arms are devices to cut the bondage of desires, capture difficulties, to symbolize sacrifices and to discover the sweetness of atman.
Ganesha does occur since the 8th century and can be seen e.g. in the Prambanan temple, Central Java Indonesia.
